Abstract
(EN) A novel flow-through architecture for fragmentation and reassembly of tunnel packets in network devices is presented. The fragmentation and reassembly of tunneled packets are handled in the hardware pipeline to achieve line-rate processing of the traffic flow without the need for additional store and forward operations typically provided by a host processor or a co-processor. In addition, the hardware pipeline may perform fragmentation and reassembly of packets using encrypted tunnels by performing segment-by-segment crypto. A network device implementing fragment reassembly can include an ingress hardware pipeline that reassembles fragmented packets between a media access control (MAC) of the device and an output packet memory of the device, where the incoming fragmented packets can be encrypted and/or tunneled. A network device implementing packet fragmentation can include an egress hardware pipeline that fragments packets between an input packet memory of the device and the MAC, where the outgoing fragments can be encrypted and/or tunneled.
(FR) La présente invention concerne une nouvelle architecture par flux destinées à la fragmentation et au ré-assemblage de paquets tunnel dans des dispositifs de réseau. La fragmentation et le ré-assemblage de paquets tunnellisés sont traités dans le pipeline matériel de façon à réaliser un traitement de débit en ligne du flux de trafic sans exiger d'opération de stockage et d'envoi additionnelles habituellement fournies par un processeur hôte ou par un coprocesseur. Par ailleurs, ce pipeline matériel peut effectuer la fragmentation et le ré-assemblage de paquets en utilisant des tunnels cryptés via la réalisation d'une cryptographie segment par segment. Un dispositif de réseau mettant en oeuvre le ré-assemblage de fragments peut comprendre un pipeline matériel d'entrée qui ré-assemble des paquets fragmentés entre une commande d'accès média (MAC) du dispositif et une mémoire de paquets de sortie de ce dispositif, les paquets fragmentés entrant pouvant être cryptés et/ou tunnellisés. Un dispositif de réseau mettant en oeuvre la fragmentation de paquets peut comprendre un pipeline matériel de sortie du fragments de paquets entre une mémoire de paquets d'entrées du dispositif et le MAC, les fragments sortants pouvant être cryptés et/ou tunnellisés.
