Abstract
(EN)
In a charging apparatus, which uses a solar battery to charge an electric double layer capacitor (referred to as 'capacitor' hereinafter), the flow of electric energy from the solar battery to the capacitor is controlled so as to improve the efficiency of charging the capacitor by use of the solar battery. A charging apparatus (10) comprises a DC/DC converter (32), a detecting circuit (50) and a controller (60). The DC/DC converter (32), which has at least a switch (40), converts, in accordance with a variable duty ratio of the switch, a power supplied from a solar battery (12) to a capacitor (14). The detecting circuit (50) detects the charging current for the capacitor. The controller (60) refers to the charging current (Ic) detected by the detecting circuit but not to the charging voltage (Vc) for the capacitor, and decides the duty ratio such that the charging current for the capacitor is substantially maximized. The controller (60) then controls the switch such that the decided duty ratio is realized.
