The present invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of 6-O-methylerythromycin A derivatives, intermediates of clarithromycin, by selective methylation of erythromycin A derivative in a mixture of a acyclic or cyclic alkanes having C6-C10 carbon atoms, and a polar aprotic solvent using a methylating agent in the presence of a base under mild conditions.

La présente invention a trait à un procédé amélioré pour la préparation de dérivés de 6-0-méthylérythromycine A, des intermédiaires de clarithromycine, par la méthylation sélective de dérivé d'érythromycine A dans un mélange d'un alcane acyclique ou cyclique ayant 6 à 10 atomes de carbone, et un solvant aprotique polaire à l'aide d'un agent de méthylation en présence d'une base dans des conditions modérées.
