The present invention relates to organic electro-luminescent devices, in particular to methods of increasing device lifetime in organic-electro luminescent devices. We will describe an organic electroluminescent device comprising a substrate, a first electrode layer overlying said substrate, an electroluminescent layer overlying said first electrode layer, a second electrode layer overlying said electroluminescent layer, and an encapsulating layer joined to the substrate to cover the organic electroluminescent layer, wherein said electroluminescent layer is surrounded by a ring of getter material that is disposed in a retaining means provided on or in said substrate and/or said encapsulating layer

L'invention concerne des dispositifs électroluminescents organiques, notamment des procédés permettant de prolonger la durée de vie de dispositifs électroluminescents organiques. Le dispositif électroluminescent organique selon l'invention comprend: un substrat, une première couche d'électrode, une couche électroluminescente organique recouvrant la première couche d'électrode, une deuxième couche d'électrode recouvrant la couche électroluminescente et une couche d'enrobage unie au substrat de façon à recouvrir la couche électroluminescente organique. Le dispositif électroluminescent organique est caractérisé en ce que la couche électroluminescente organique est entourée d'une bande de matériau getter disposée dans un moyen de retenue monté sur ou dans le substrat et/ou la couche d'enrobage.
