A method for detecting symbols is provided in a communi- cation system. Symbols are received simultaneously through multiple spreading code channels. The received symbols are detected by processing one received symbol at a time, calculating reliability metrics recursively from a symbol received through a first spreading code channel for each possibly transmitted symbol by comparing each pos- sibly transmitted symbol with each rake receiver finger adapted to the received symbol at a time, and selecting, based on the reliability metrics, a number of most probable candidate symbols for further processing. The process then calculates reliability metrics from a symbol received through a second spreading code channel using the reli- ability metrics for the most probable candidates. The method utilizes effectively cross-correlation properties of the spreading codes associated with the spreading code channels.

La présente invention décrit un procédé pour détecter des symboles dans un système de communication. Les symboles sont reçus simultanément par le biais de plusieurs canaux de code de répartition. Les symboles reçus sont détectés en traitant un symbole reçu à la fois, en calculant de manière récursive la mesure de fiabilité à partir d'un symbole reçu par un premier canal de code de répartition pour chaque symbole pouvant être transmis en comparant chacun d'entre eux avec chaque doigt de récepteur Rake adapté au symbole reçu à un moment donné et en sélectionnant, en fonction de la mesure de fiabilité, un nombre de symboles candidats les plus probables pour traitement ultérieur. Le processus calcule ensuite la mesure de fiabilité à partir d'un symbole reçu par un second canal de code de répartition à l'aide de la mesure de fiabilité pour les candidats les plus probables. Le procédé utilise efficacement les propriétés de corrélation croisée des codes de répartition associés aux canaux de code de répartition.
