The present invention is a method by which the mine can obtain a supply of calcium cyanide for use in its leaching operations. Specifically, one preferred method within the scope of the invention involves producing hydrogen cyanide directly at a mine site using formamide as a starting material. Alternative methods of producing hydrogen cyanide at the mine site using easily transportable starting materials, such as methanol and urea, are disclosed. The hydrogen cyanide is neutralized at the mine site with slaked lime (Ca(OH)2 )to form the calcium cyanide.

L'invention concerne un procédé qui permet à une mine d'obtenir une réserve de cyanure de calcium destiné à être utilisé lors de ses opérations de lixiviation. D'une manière plus spécifique, un procédé préféré consiste à produire du cyanure d'hydrogène directement sur un site minier en utilisant du formamide comme matériau de départ. L'invention concerne également d'autres procédés de production de cyanure d'hydrogène sur le site minier au moyen de matériaux de départ facilement transportables, tels que le méthanol et l'urée. Le cyanure d'hydrogène est neutralisé sur le site minier à l'aide de chaux délitée (Ca(OH)2) afin de former le cyanure de calcium.
