Abstract

A seal assembly that includes a first mating component (12) , a second mating component (14, 18), and a gasket (16, 20) having a predetermined shape that is positioned between the first (12) and second (14, 18) mating components and subjected to compression load. The gasket (16, 20) is constructed out of a memory material, such as a nickel titanium alloy. Upon application of heat from a heat source, gasket (16, 20) is urged to the original predetermined shape from the compressed configuration, thereby applying a desired force against the first (12) and second (14, 18) mating components.

Cette invention concerne un ensemble d'étanchéité comprenant un premier élément à joindre (12), un second élément à joindre (14, 18)et un joint statique (16, 20) présentant une forme prédéterminée placée entre le premier élément à joindre (12) et le second élément à joindre (14, 18) et soumis à une charge de compression. Le joint statique (16, 20) est fabriqué à partir d'un matériau à mémoire, tel qu'un alliage de nickel et de titane. Lorsqu'on applique de la chaleur provenant d'une source de chaleur, le joint statique (16, 20) est entraîné de manière à retrouver sa forme prédéterminée de départ depuis sa configuration comprimée, et ainsi, il applique une force souhaitée contre le premier élément à joindre (12) et le second élément à joindre (14, 18).
