Direct injection controlled auto-Ignition engine operated at steady state, within a homogeneous charge compression-ignition (HCCI) load range and with fuel-air-dilueπt mixtures at predetermined conditions, for each speed and load, of engine control inputs, including at least fueling mass flow rate, injection timing (Fl), spark timing (Sl) and exhaust recompression obtained by negative valve overlap (NVO). During load change rates below a predetermined threshold, Sl, Fl and NVO change rates are synchronized to current changes in the fueling mass flow rate. For fast load increases above the threshold, the cylinder charge is temporarily enriched by increasing the percentage of residual gas or reducing the percentage of fresh air mass in the charge sufficiently to maintain auto-ignition temperature during the load change, possibly by delaying NVO action for a predetermined speed-dependent number of engine cycles. Stable fuel rate reduction may require involving deceleration fuel cut-off followed by a step change during refire.

L'invention concerne un moteur à injection directe et auto-allumage commandé actionné à régime permanent, à un niveau de charge d'allumage-compression homogène (HCCI) et avec des mélanges carburant-air-diluant dans des conditions prédéfinies, pour chaque vitesse et charge, d'entrée de commande de moteur, notamment au moins un débit de masse d'avitaillement, une avance à l'injection (FI), un calage de l'allumage (SI) et une recompression d'évacuation obtenue par un croisement des soupapes négatif (NVO). Lorsque la variation de charge est intérieure à un seuil prédéfini, les taux de variation SI, FI et NVO sont synchronisé à des variations courantes dans le débit de masse d'avitaillement. Pour que la vitesse de charge augmente au-dessus du seuil, la charge du cylindre est temporairement enrichie par augmentation du pourcentage de gaz résiduel ou par réduction du pourcentage de masse d'air frais dans la charge suffisamment pour maintenir la température auto-allumage durant la variation de charge. Ceci peut être réalisé par retardement de l'action NVO pour un nombre de cycle de moteur dépendant de la vitesse prédéfinis. A des niveaux de charge très bas, la réduction du niveau de carburant stable peut nécessiter un autre procédé impliquant la décélération du clapet de ralenti suivi par une étape de variation durant le rallumage.
