Granules based on silicon dioxide and having the properties : Average grain size: 10 to 120 μm BET surface area: 40 to 400 m2/g Pore volume: 0.5 to 2.5 ml/g Pore size distribution: less than 5 % of the total pore volume exists of pores with a diameter < 5 nm, rest meso- and macropores pH value: 3.6 to 8.5 Tapped density: 220 to 700 g/1 They are prepared by dispersing silicon dioxide in water, spray drying, optionally heating and/or silanising. Whereas a pyrogenic silicon dioxide powder with a BET surface area of 30 to 90 m2/g, a DBP index of 80 or less, a mean aggregate area of less than 25000 nm2 and a mean aggregate circumference of less than 1000 nm, wherein at least 70% of the aggregates have a circumference of less than 1300 nm or a high-purity pyrogenically prepared silicon dioxide having metal contents of less than 0.2 μg/g is prepared by reacting a silicon tetrachloride having a metal content of less than 30 ppb by means of flame hydrolysis is used.

L'invention concerne des granulés à base de dioxyde de silicium et possédant les propriétés suivantes: une granulométrie moyenne comprise entre 10 et 120 µm, une surface active BET comprise entre 40 et 400 m2/g, un volume des pores compris entre 0,5 et 2,5 ml/g, une distribution de la taille des pores inférieure à 5 % du volume total des pores d'un diamètre < 5 nm, une valeur de pH des méso- et macropores au repos comprise entre 3,6 et 8,5, une densité après tassement comprise entre 220 et 700 g/1. Ces granulés sont obtenus au moyen d'une préparation consistant à : disperser du dioxyde de silicium dans de l'eau, à effectuer un séchage par pulvérisation, éventuellement à effectuer un chauffage et/ou une silanisation. L'invention concerne également une poudre de dioxyde de silicone pyrogène présentant une surface active BET comprise entre 30 et 90 m2/g, un index de DBP d'au plus 80, une zone d'agrégats moyenne inférieure à 25000 nm2 et une circonférence d'agrégats moyenne inférieure à 1000 nm, au moins 70 % des agrégats présentant une circonférence inférieure à 1300 nm ou un dioxyde de silicium préparé de manière pyrogène possédant des teneurs en métal inférieures à 0.2 µg/g préparé par mise à réagir d'un tétrachlorure de silicium possédant une teneur en métal inférieure à 30 ppb au moyen d'une hydrolyse à la flamme.
