A method for arranging and operating an array of wind machines (8) to disperse area-wide odors, as generated by municipal waste treatment facilities and the like. The method includes a wind machine positioned to force air across the odor source (9) . The wind machine is preferably a propeller/ tower configuration (12, 14) , and most preferably configured for high volume and low RPM operation, to minimize noise. The method also includes the steps of sensing ambient meteorological and plant operation conditions in real time (25, 40) and operating the wind machines in response to stagnant, odor producing conditions. Multiples of wind machines are employed in the preferred embodiment of the method, the siting of the wind machines based upon topographic and historical meteorological conditions. The wind machines can respond to the odor by varying operating parameters such as air flow direction, speed and blade pitch.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'installer et de faire fonctionner un réseau d'aérogénérateurs de manière à disperser des odeurs s'étendant sur une zone, telles que celles engendrées par des installations municipales de traitement de déchets et similaires. Ce procédé comprend un aérogénérateur placé pour pousser l'air à travers la source d'odeurs. Ledit aérogénérateur présente, de préférence, une configuration d'hélice/de colonne et, idéalement, il est conçu pour fonctionner avec un volume élevé et un nombre de tours/minute bas, afin de minimiser le bruit. Ce procédé consiste aussi à détecter des conditions de fonctionnement de l'installation et des conditions météorologiques ambiantes en temps réel et à faire fonctionner les aérogénérateurs en réponse à des conditions de production d'odeurs stagnantes. Plusieurs aérogénérateurs sont utilisés dans le mode de réalisation préféré de ce procédé, l'implantation desdits aérogénérateurs reposant sur des conditions météorologiques topographiques et historiques. Lesdits aérogénérateurs peuvent répondre à l'odeur par le biais de la variation des paramètres de fonctionnement, tels que la direction de l'écoulement d'air, la vitesse et le pas des pales.
