A display for displaying an image while dividing one frame into sub-frames. Each pixel of a display portion has first and second sub-pixels (SP1, SP2) connected to the same source line (S) and the same gate line (G). The luminance of the first sub-pixels (SP1) is made different from that of the second ones (SP2), either the first or second sub-pixels are driven for black display (white display), and the luminances of the other sub-pixels are adjusted. Thereby, an image of low luminance (high luminance) is displayed, the difference between the display luminance of either the first or second sub-pixels and the actual luminance is made minimum, and the viewing-angle characteristic is improved. The relationship between the levels of the luminances of the first and second sub-pixels (SP1, SP2) is changed every period, and thus the screen is prevented from being viewed as a screened pattern where bright dots and dark dots are mixed.

La présente invention concerne un écran à même d'afficher une image tout en divisant une trame en sous-trames. Chaque pixel d'une partie de l'écran possède des premiers et seconds sous-pixels (SP1, SP2) connectés à la même ligne source (S) et à la même ligne de grille (G). La luminance des premiers sous-pixels (SP1) est rendue différente de celle des seconds (SP2), les premiers ou les seconds sous-pixels sont agencés pour former un écran noir (écran blanc) et les luminances des autres sous-pixels sont ajustées. Ce faisant, une image de faible luminance (haute luminance) est affichée, la différence entre la luminance d'affichage des premiers ou seconds sous-pixels et la luminance effective étant minimisée et l'angle visuel optimisé. La relation entre les différents niveaux de luminance des premiers et seconds sous-pixels (SP1, SP2) est modifiée à chaque point, ce qui évite que l'écran apparaisse sous forme d'un motif balayé où se mélangent les points clairs et sombres.
