Abstract
(EN) Optical devices and methods for providing wide field magnification to assist the visually impaired, and others, are provided. The optical device includes a plurality of telescopic lens sets (31, 32, 33), for example, a plurality of telescopes, each telescopic lens set including an objective lens (35, 36, 37) and an ocular lens (38, 39, 40), and a plurality of refracting optical elements (41, 42, 43), for example, prisms, positioned in front of at least some of the objective lenses. The refracting optical elements are adapted to at least partially redirect light rays toward at least some of the objective lenses to provide wider fields of view, for example, a wider contiguous field of view. Aspects of the invention can provide fields of view up to 40 degrees or more. These wider fields of view can greatly enhance the visual acuity of the visually impaired, as well as provide wider fields of view for non-corrective purposes, such as for field observations.
(FR) L'invention concerne des dispositifs optiques et des procédés permettant de produire un grossissement à grand angle et qui sont utiles, entre autres, aux personnes ayant une déficience visuelle. Le dispositif optique comprend une pluralité d'ensembles lentilles télescopiques (31, 32, 33), par exemple une pluralité de télescopes, chaque ensemble de lentilles télescopiques comprenant un objectif (35, 36, 37) et un oculaire (38, 39, 40), et une pluralité d'éléments optiques (41, 42, 43) réfringents, par exemple des prismes, placés devant au moins certains des objectifs. Les éléments optiques réfringents sont conçus pour faire dévier au moins partiellement les rayons lumineux vers au moins certains des objectifs afin d'élargir l'angle de vision, afin d'obtenir par exemple un champ de vision adjacent plus large. Certaines formes de réalisation de l'invention permettent de produire des champs de vision supérieurs pouvant atteindre au moins 40 degrés. L'élargissement du champ de vision améliore considérablement l'acuité visuelle des personnes ayant une déficience visuelle mais est également utile à des fins autres que correctrices, p. ex. pour des observations de terrain.
