A method, program product and device for encoding and/or decoding video data can include treating coefficients in the enhancement layer corresponding to a non-zero coefficient in the base layer differently than a coefficient in the enhancement layer corresponding to a zero coefficient in the base layer. The sign of the base layer quantized coefficient can also be used as it indicates how the reconstructed error differs from the original signal. The coefficient of independent spatial transforms can be arranged into subbands and the encoding of the subbands can utilize spatial information and coded block flags and end of block flags to reduce bit rate. Rather than feeding the coefficients into a context-based adaptive binary arithmetic coding engine on a block-by-block basis, the subbands can be passed into the engine. Subband coefficients may be removed in a controlled manner, leading to a reduced bit-rate.

L'invention concerne un procédé, un programme et un dispositif de codage et/ou de décodage de données vidéo pouvant consister à traiter des coefficients dans la couche d'enrichissement correspondant à un coefficient non nul dans la couche de base d'une manière différente de celle d'un coefficient dans la couche d'enrichissement correspondant à un coefficient zéro dans la couche de base. Le signe du coefficient quantifié de la couche de base peut aussi être utilisé à mesure qu'il indique de combien l'erreur reconstruite diffère du signal original. Le coefficient de transformées spatiales indépendantes peut être agencé en sous-bandes et le codage des sous-bandes peut utiliser des informations spatiales, des drapeaux de blocs codés et la fin de drapeaux de blocs afin de réduire le débit binaire. Au lieu d'introduire les coefficients dans un moteur de codage arithmétique binaire adaptatif basé sur le contexte sur une base bloc par bloc, les sous-bandes peuvent être passées dans le moteur. Les coefficients de sous-bandes peuvent être éliminés d'une manière régulée, conduisant à réduire le débit binaire.
