Abstract:

(EN)A blink sensor comprising a snap or tab electrode is positioned over one or more eye muscles known to assist in closing the eye. The device processes the signal to determine the occurrence of a blink, thereby producing an accurate blink electromyogram (EMG). The device and/or a caregiver may advantageously monitor the blink EMG, before and/or after occurrence processing, to determine the onset or actual occurrence of a patient condition. In an embodiment, the device monitors the blink EMG to determine the onset or occurrence of drowsiness in, for example, a driver, pilot, captain, doctor, soldier, or the like. In an embodiment, a caregiver monitors the blink EMG for one or more muscles in one or both eyes to determine the onset or occurrence of eye disease, such as, for example, strabismus.
(FR)Selon cette invention, un capteur du clignement des yeux, comprenant une électrode à pression ou à languette, est positionné sur un ou plusieurs muscles connus de l'oeil de façon à en faciliter la fermeture. Le dispositif traite le signal pour déterminer l'apparition d'un clignement, générant ainsi un électromyogramme précis du clignement. Le dispositif et/ou une personne soignante peut avantageusement surveiller l'électromyogramme du clignement, avant et/ou après le processus d'apparition, afin de déterminer le début ou l'apparition réelle de l'état du patient. Selon un mode de mise en oeuvre, le dispositif surveille l'électromyogramme du clignement afin de déterminer le début ou l'apparition de la somnolence, par exemple, chez un conducteur de véhicule, un pilote, un capitaine, un médecin, un soldat ou autre. Selon un autre mode de mise en oeuvre, une personne soignante surveille l'électromyogramme du clignement d'un ou de plusieurs muscles dans un oeil, ou dans les deux, afin de déterminer le début ou l'apparition de la maladie de l'oeil, telle que le strabisme.
