Abstract
(EN) A method of auditing operation of a cable television appliance consistent with certain embodiments involves detecting an event that triggers an audit; generating a fingerprint value,wherein the fingerprint value is function of the cable television network characteristics at an authorized installation location; comparing the fingerprint value with a stored reference value; if the fingerprint value is within specified limits of the stored reference value, permitting the cable television applicance to carry out a normal operational function; and if the fingerprint value is outside of spsecified limits of the stored reference value, inhibiting the cable television applicance from carrying out a normal operational function. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the featurs described in this abstract.
(FR) Selon certains modes de réalisation, l'invention concerne un procédé destiné à vérifier le fonctionnement d'un appareil de câblodistribution et consistant à détecter un événement qui déclenche une vérification, à générer une valeur d'empreinte, cette valeur d'empreinte dépendant des caractéristiques du réseau de câblodistribution au niveau d'un emplacement d'installation autorisé, à comparer la valeur d'empreinte avec une valeur de référence stockée, à permettre à l'appareil de câblodistribution de fonctionner normalement si la valeur d'empreinte est comprise dans des limites spécifiées de la valeur de référence stockée, et à empêcher l'appareil de câblodistribution de fonctionner normalement si la valeur d'empreinte sort des limites spécifiées pour la valeur de référence stockée. Le présent abrégé ne doit pas être considéré comme restrictif, d'autres modes de réalisation pouvant s'écarter des caractéristiques décrites ci-dessus.
