Abstract
(EN) A versatile attenuator (10, 20). The versatile attenuator (10, 20) includes a first mechanism (16, 18, 22) for receiving an input signal. A second mechanism (24, 26, 30) measures the input signal and provides a signal-level indication in response thereto. A third mechanism (36) selectively attenuates the input signal when the signal-level indication surpasses a predetermined threshold and provides an attenuated signal in response thereto. In a more specific embodiment, the third mechanism (36) further provides attenuation information. An additional mechanism (14, 38) then employs the attenuation information and a computer (14) to selectively adjust an output signal of a circuit (48, 52) connected between the third mechanism (36) and the computer (14) to accommodate effects that attenuation of the input signal by the third mechanism (36) has on the output signal.
(FR) L'invention concerne un atténuateur versatile (10, 20) qui comprend un premier mécanisme (16, 18, 22) de réception de signal d'entrée. Un second mécanisme (24, 26, 30) mesure le signal d'entrée et fournit une indication de niveau de signal correspondante. Un troisième mécanisme (36) atténue sélectivement le signal d'entrée lorsque cette indication dépasse un seuil préétabli et fournit un signal atténué correspondant. Selon une variante plus spécifique, le troisième mécanisme (36) donne aussi une information d'atténuation.
