Disclosed is a liquid crystal display wherein the difference of color reproduction range between reflective display and transmissive display is small. For example, as shown in Fig. 1, a counter substrate (11) has such a structure wherein a retardation film (22) and a sheet polarizer (23) are arranged on the outer side of a glass substrate (21) and a color filter (24) is arranged on the inner side of the glass substrate (21). The color filter (24) selects color of light passing through it, and has a color reproduction range of not less than 0.079 in both a reflective region (a) and a transmissive region (b). The color filter (24) is preferably made of a same coloring material and so formed as to have a substantially same thickness. Namely, the color filter (24) is preferably so formed as to have the same structure in the reflective region (a) and the transmissive region (b) within one pixel region.

On décrit un affichage à cristaux liquides dans lequel la différence de la gamme de reproduction des couleurs entre un affichage émissif et un affichage transmissif est petite. Par exemple, comme cela est montré sur la figure 1, un contre-substrat (11) présente une structure dans laquelle un film de retard (22) et un polariseur de feuille (23) sont disposés sur le côté externe d’un substrat en verre (21) et un filtre de couleurs (24) est disposé sur le côté interne du substrat en verre (21). Le filtre de couleurs (24) sélectionne la couleur de la lumière passant à travers lui, et présente une gamme de reproduction de couleurs n’étant pas inférieure à 0,079 à la fois dans une région émissive (a) et une région transmissive (b). Le filtre de couleurs (24) est de préférence fait de la même matière colorante et est formé de façon à avoir sensiblement la même épaisseur. À savoir, le filtre de couleur (24) est de préférence formé de façon à avoir la même structure dans la région émissive (a) et la région transmissive (b) dans une région de pixels.

本発明は、反射表示と透過表示とで色再現範囲の差を小さくすることが可能な液晶表示装置を提供する。例えば、図1に示すように、対向基板11は、ガラス基板21の外側に位相差板22、偏光板23を備え、また、ガラス基板21の内側にカラーフィルタ24を備えた構成である。カラーフィルタ24は、自身を透過する光の色を選択するものである。また、カラーフィルタ24は、反射領域a及び透過領域bの双方において、色再現範囲を0.079以上とする。そして、同じ色材で膜厚もほぼ等しく形成されることが好ましい。つまり、1つの画素領域において、反射領域aと透過領域bとで同じ構成とすることが好ましい。
