Abstract:

(EN)A display device (DD) comprises a light source (LS); a display panel (DP) with display pixels for modulating light originating from the light source (LS); and processing circuitry (P) coupled to the display panel (DP) and the light source (LS). The processing circuitry (P) has an input for receiving an input signal (V1) representing gray levels of pixels of an image to be displayed on the display panel (DP) and comprises: an amplifier (A) for amplifying the input signal (VI) to provide an output signal (V2) for driving the display pixels, a detector (S) for detecting whether within a part of the image a property of the output signal (V2), and - control circuitry (CM) for controlling a gain of the amplifier (A) and a brightness level of the light source (LS) in dependence on the property. The property may be that a first number of pixels of the output signal (V2) exceed a first predetermined number, wherein the first number of pixels is the number of pixels having a gray level exceeding a first predetermined gray level.
(FR)L'invention concerne un afficheur (DD) comprenant une source lumineuse (LS); un écran d'affichage (DP) comprenant des pixels d'affichage permettant de moduler la lumière provenant de la source lumineuse (LS); et des circuits (P) de traitement couplés à l'écran d'affichage (DP) et à la source lumineuse (LS). Le circuit (P) de traitement possède une entrée permettant la réception d'un signal d'entrée (V1) représentant les niveaux de gris d'une image à afficher sur l'écran d'affichage (DP) et comprend: un amplificateur (A) servant à amplifier le signal d'entrée (V1) afin de produire un signal de sortie (V2) activant les pixels d'affichage, un détecteur (S) servant à détecter une caractéristique du signal de sortie (V2) dans une partie de l'image, et des circuits de commande (CM) permettant de commander le gain de l'amplificateur (A) et le niveau de luminosité de la source lumineuse (LS) conformément à la propriété détectée. Cette caractéristique peut être le fait qu'un premier nombre de pixels du signal de sortie (V2) est supérieur à un premier nombre prédéterminé, le premier nombre de pixels représentant le nombre de pixels présentant un niveau de gris dépassant un premier niveau de gris prédéterminé.
