Abstract

The use of a glass-ceramic including an Anorthite phase in providing protection from kinetic threats and in the production of armor is disclosed. The glass-ceramic proves to be exceptionally useful in protecting an object against multiple kinetic threats as kinetic energy of a kinetic threat impacting the glass-ceramic is dissipated by localized pulverization of the glass-ceramic without extensive shattering thereof. Also disclosed is the use of coal ash for the manufacture of an armor component. Also disclosed is a novel method for manufacturing crystal or partially-crystalline products manufactured by crystallization in a furnace.

L'invention concerne un composite à matrice vitrocéramique comprenant une phase anorthite, utilisable pour apporter une protection contre les menaces cinétiques lors de la production d'armes blindées. Le composite à matrice vitrocéramique s'avère exceptionnellement utile dans la protection d'un objet contre de multiples menaces cinétiques, dans la mesure où l'énergie cinétique d'un danger cinétique heurtant le composite vitrocéramique est dissipée par pulvérisation localisée du composite à matrice vitrocéramique sans éclatement important de ce dernier. L'invention concerne également l'utilisation de cendre de charbon pour la fabrication d'un élément de blindage. Elle concerne en outre un nouveau procédé de production de produits cristallins ou partiellement cristallins fabriqués par cristallisation dans un four.
