(EN)In order to realize a display of stabilized addressing with good contrast by means of a gas discharge display device having a screen of tree electrode surface discharge structure constituted such that the opposed discharge start voltage is higher than the surface discharge start voltage, positive charges for accelerating discharge at the time of addressing following to initialization of charged state, i.e. release of setting made by the last performed addressing, are formed between counter electrodes before starting the initialization, and the initialization is carried out such that the thus-formed positive charges do not disappear.
