(EN)The melt viscosity of polyesters can be reduced by heating the polyester in a melt which is in contact with a hydrate that loses water at the temperature of the process. The process is typically carried out in a polymer melt mixer such as an extruder, and usually a reproducible decrease in the polymer melt viscosity is obtained. The resulting polyesters are useful for making films and moldings.
(FR)La viscosité de fonte des polyesters peut être réduite en chauffant le polyester dans un bain de verre en contact avec un hydrate qui perd de l’eau à la température du procédé. Le procédé a généralement lieu dans un mélangeur de polymères, comme une boudineuse, et en général, on obtient une baisse reproductible de la viscosité de fonte des polymères. Les polyesters ainsi obtenus sont utiles dans la fabrication de film et les moulages.
