A system and method are directed towards managing interoperability between disparate IM networks. A clearinghouse server is provided that receives IM messages from disparate IM networks. The clearinghouse server examines the IM message to determine it is in a compatible protocol for a destination IM network. If the IM message is incompatible a translation service is used to translate the message into a compatible protocol. The translation service further determines if the destination IM network supports a feature employed by the received IM message. If the feature is supported or can be translated to a supported feature, the translation service will also perform the feature translation. Otherwise, the translation service may return an error message indicating that the received IM message includes an unsupported feature for the destination IM network. Upon satisfactory translation, the clearinghouse server forwards the translated IM message towards the destination IM network.

La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé de gestion de l'interopérabilité entre des réseaux de messagerie instantanée (MI) disparates. Un serveur de centre de redistribution reçoit des messages MI en provenance de réseaux MI disparates. Le serveur de centre de redistribution examine le message MI pour déterminer s'il se trouve dans un protocole compatible pour un réseau MI de destination. Si le message MI est incompatible, un service de traduction est appelé pour traduire le message dans un protocole compatible. Le service de traduction détermine également si le réseau MI de destination accepte une caractéristique employée par le message MI reçu. Si la caractéristique est acceptée ou peut être traduite en caractéristique acceptée, le service de traduction effectue également la traduction de la caractéristique. Dans le cas contraire, le service de traduction peut renvoyer un message d'erreur indiquant que le message MI reçu comprend une caractéristique non acceptée par le réseau MI de destination. Suite à la traduction réussie, le serveur de centre de redistribution réexpédie le message MI traduit au réseau MI de destination.
