Title: HIGH-ENERGY PROJECTILE WITH LOW PRESSURE IMPACT CONSEQUENCE
Abstract:
A projectile (16) for firearms having a spherical shape that comprises a matrix of a resiliently deformable material and dense metallic powder. The projectile has a diameter larger than that of the cartridge case (10) in which it is disposed and is of sufficient resilience to be deformed into said cavity before firing and resile to a substantially undeformed state upon exiting the gun barrel. The projectile also has a spherical void (19) that is preferably filled with foam created by a foaming agent to facilitate loading of the projectile into a cartridge. The projectile is placed in a ball sleeve (20) to decrease friction between the projectile and the gun barrel. A method of using the projectile of the present invention is also described.
