Zur Ausbildung eines Verschmutzungssensors ist vorgesehen, in die Oberfläche eines Gegenstands (12) eine optische Faser (2) zu integrieren, die in unmittelbarem Kontakt zur Umgebung steht. Die Wirkung als Verschmutzungssensor beruht auf einer Intensitätsschwächung des durch die optische Faser (2) geleiteten Lichts, sobald ein Schmutzpartikel auf die optische Faser (2) auftrifft und damit das im Aussenraum (8) der optischen Faser (2) bestehende Evanescent-Feld stört. Ein derartiger Verschmutzungssensor wird insbesondere im Kraftfahrzeugbereich, beispielsweise für Scheinwerferabdeckungen eingesetzt.

An optical fibre (2) that is directly in contact with the environment is integrated into the surface of an object (12) in order to create a dirt sensor. The action of said dirt sensor is based on a weakening of the intensity of the light guided through the optical fibre (2), as soon as a dirt particle lands on the optical fibre (2), disturbing the evanescent field in the outer region (8) surrounding the optical fibre (2). One such dirt sensor is used especially in the field of motor vehicles, for example for headlight covers.

Selon l'invention, il est prévu, pour la constitution d'un capteur de contamination, d'intégrer, dans la surface d'un objet (12), une fibre optique (2) qui est directement en contact avec l'environnement. Le fonctionnement de ce capteur de contamination est fondé sur un affaiblissement de l'intensité de la lumière conduite par la fibre optique (2) dès qu'une particule de saleté vient frapper la fibre optique (2) et perturbe ainsi le champ évanescent existant dans l'espace extérieur (8) entourant la fibre optique (2). Un tel capteur de contamination est utilisé, en particulier, dans le domaine des véhicules automobiles, par exemple pour les recouvrements de phares.
