Abstract:
(EN) In a cellular communications network (10), additional control signals comprising virtual base station identification data are distributed in the radio system from well defined locations by e.g. transmitters (7A-G). Since there is a connection between each virtual base station identification data and the location from where it is transmitted, a mobile terminal (6) can use the information for improving its position estimation according to conventional procedures. No modifications of the mobile terminals (6) are therefore necessary. The mobile terminal (6) is not able to connect to the communications system (10) using the virtual base station identification data, since this data only is intended for position estimating purposes. In such a way, the devices for providing the additional information necessary for the improved position estimation can be made very simple and inexpensive.
(FR) Dans un réseau de communications cellulaire (10), des signaux de commande additionnels comprenant des données virtuelles d'identification de station de base sont distribuées dans le système radio à partir d'emplacements bien définis par des émetteurs, par exemple (7A-G). Puisqu'il y a une connexion entre chaque donnée virtuelle d'identification de station de base et l'emplacement depuis lequel elles sont transmises, un terminal mobile (6) peut utiliser les informations pour améliorer l'évaluation de sa position conformément à des procédures traditionnelles. Il n'est donc pas nécessaire d'apporter des modifications aux terminaux mobiles (6). Le terminal mobile (6) ne peut pas se connecter au système de communications (10) à l'aide des données virtuelles d'identification de station de base, puisque ces données sont destinées uniquement à des fins d'estimation de position. De cette façon, les dispositifs destinés à fournir les informations additionnelles nécessaires pour obtenir une meilleure estimation de position peut être fabriquées de manière très simple et à faible coût.
