When writing or reading with multiple spots the spots are positioned on a line. By using the outer two spots for tracking the remaining spots can be precisely positioned. When the line forms an angle with the writing direction a situation can be created where the modulator only needs to consider data already present in one adjacent track, not both adjacent tracks, leading to a reduction in complexity of the modulator.

Lors de la lecture ou de l'écriture au moyen de points multiples, les points sont alignés. On peut utiliser les deux points aux extrémités extérieures pour localiser avec précision les points restants. Lorsqu'une ligne forme un angle avec la direction d'inscription, il est possible d'obtenir une situation où le modulateur a besoin de considérer uniquement les données déjà présentes dans un seul sillon adjacent, pas dans le deux sillons adjacents, ce qui permet de réduire la complexité du modulateur.
