Method and apparatus for producing filamentary structures. The structures include single-walled nanotubes. The method includes combusting hydrocarbon fuel and oxygen to establish a non-sooting flame and providing an unsupported catalyst to synthesize the filamentary structure in a post-flame region of the flame. Residence time is selected to favor filamentary structure growth.

L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil de production de structures filamentaires composées de nanotubes à simple paroi. Le procédé consiste à faire brûler un hydrocarbure dans l'oxygène avec une flamme sans suie et à utiliser un catalyseur non supporté pour créer la structure filamentaire dans la zone postérieure de la flamme. On agit sur le temps de résidence pour favoriser la croissance de la structure filamentaire.
