An apparatus and a method for the detection of Radon gas concentration variation in the environment is provided. The detector device, e.g. a scintillator and a photomultiplier tube (PMT), is able to detect gamma particles generated from the decay of Radon (222Rn) and its progeny. Preferably, the apparatus further comprises a light shielding and a natural nuclear radiation shielding means. In addition, a method of forecasting seismic events, e.g. earthquakes, is described, using a detection net consisting of several of the aforementioned detection devices located over the territory to be monitored, linked together by a software or hardware network.

La présente invention se rapporte à un appareil et à un procédé permettant de détecter les variations de la concentration de radon dans l'environnement. Le dispositif de détection, qui se présente par exemple sous la forme d'un scintillateur et d'un tube photomultiplicateur (PMT), peut détecter les particules gamma générées par la désintégration du radon (222Rn) et de sa descendance. L'appareil comprend également de préférence un moyen de protection contre la lumière et un moyen de protection contre le rayonnement nucléaire naturel. De plus, l'invention concerne un procédé permettant de prédire des phénomènes sismiques, par exemple des tremblements de terre, qui fait appel à un réseau de détection composé des dispositifs de détection susmentionnés, lesquels sont placés sur le terrain à surveiller et sont reliés les uns aux autres par un réseau logiciel ou matériel.
