(EN)Polarization Dependent Effects (PDEs), including Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) and Polarization Dependent Loss (PDL) imposed on optical signals conveyed through an optical link are compensated by processing an input signal in the electrical domain prior to transmission. A compensation function is derived that at least partially compensates the PDEs. The communications signal is then processed in the electrical domain using the compensation function to generate an electrical predistorted signal. The electrical predistorted signal is then used to modulate an optical source to generate a corresponding predistorted optical signal for transmission through the optical link. The PDEs of the optical link operate of the predistorted optical signal such at that substantially undistorted optical signal is received at a receiving end of the link.
(FR)On compense les effets dépendant de la polarisation (PDEs), comprenant la dispersion en mode polarisation (PMD) et les pertes dépendant de la polarisation (PDL) imposées à un signal optique traversant une liaison optique en traitant un signal d'entrée du domaine électrique avant l'émission et en en tirant une fonction de compensation qui compense partiellement les PDEs. On traite le signal de communication du domaine électrique à l'aide de ladite fonction de compensation pour produire un signal électrique prédéformé qui module une source optique pour produire un signal optique prédéformé transmis à travers la liaison optique. Les PDEs de la liaison optique traitent le signal optique prédéformé de manière à pouvoir recevoir un signal optique non déformé à l'extrémité réceptrice de la liaison.
