Title (EN) AN OPTICAL FIBRE
(FR) FIBRE OPTIQUE
Abstract: front page image
(EN)An optical fibre (1) comprising a waveguide (2), the waveguide (2) being such that in cross section it comprises a plurality of component parts (3), and the waveguide (2) also being such that it is twisted along its length (4). It is preferred that the component parts (3) are made from different materials having different stimulated Brillouin scattering properties. The waveguide (2) can comprise one or more rare earth dopants. An advantage is an increase in the stimulated Brillouin scattering threshold.
