Abstract
(EN) The present invention relates to waveguides for guiding and modulating long range surface plasmon polaritons (LR-SPPs). The guiding devices comprise a core stripe of e.g. metal of finite width embedded in a cladding such as a dielectric cladding. Particularly, in the waveguides of the invention, the complex propagation constant of the guided LR-SPP mode(s) can be dynamically adjusted by heating of the metal core leading to dissipation of heat into the surrounding dielectric material. The devices may be used in the construction of dynamic light guiding integrated components for optical telecommunication.
(FR) La présente invention concerne des guides d'ondes permettant de guider et de moduler des plasmons polaritons de surface longue portée (LR-SPPs). Les dispositifs de guidage comprennent une bande âme, par exemple, de métal d'une largeur finie enrobée d'un surfaçage tel qu'un placage diélectrique. Particulièrement dans les guides d'ondes selon l'invention, la constante de propagation complexe du/des mode(s) LR-SPP guidé(s) peu(ven)t être dynamiquement ajusté(s) par le chauffage de l'âme métallique, ce qui entraîne la dissipation de la chaleur dans le matériau diélectrique environnant. Ces dispositifs peuvent être utilisés dans la construction de composants intégrés guidant dynamiquement la lumière pour la télécommunicaiton optique.
