A method for the preparation of a supported transition metal catalyst system comprises the steps of: (i) mixing together in a suitable solvent (a) an aluminoxane and (b) an ionic activator comprising a cation and an anion wherein the anion has at least one substituent comprising a moiety having an active hydrogen, (ii) addition of the mixture from step (i) to a support material, and (iii) addition of a transition metal compound in a suitable solvent. The use of tetraisobutylaluminoxane as the aluminoxane results in a more stable activity profile and improved polymer properties in particular melt strength.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'un système de catalyseur métallique de transition supporté. Ledit procédé consiste: (i) à mélanger dans un solvant approprié (a) une aluminoxane et (b) un activateur ionique comprenant un cation et un anion, l'anion présentant au moins un substituant qui comprend une fraction présentant un hydrogène actif, (ii) à ajouter le mélange de l'étape (i) à une matière support et (iii) à ajouter un composé métallique de transition dans un solvant approprié. L'utilisation de tétra-isobutylaluminoxane en tant qu'aluminoxane entraîne un profil d'activité plus stable et des propriétés de polymères améliorées, notamment une résistance à la fusion.
