The invention relates to a styrene block copolymer and an unsaturated cyclic anhydride, such as maleic anhydride, a process for producing the copolymer by means of controlled polymerisation with free radicals, in which certain parameters are adjusted in order to control the microstructure and the molecular weight of the copolymer, and a method of using the block copolymer, including the use thereof as a compatibility agent. The microstructure and the molecular weight of the block copolymer can be controlled by adjusting the initiator to monomer ratio and/or by adjusting the stable free radical to initiator ratio. Said copolymer, which can be produced in a single-step process, comprises a controlled microstructure which enables one block to be reactive towards various chemical groups available in the engineering polymers and the other block to be completely miscible with polystyrene or miscible with polymers that are miscible with polystyrene, such as polyphenylene ether.

La presente invención proporciona un copolímero en bloque de estireno y un anhídrido cíclico insaturado, tal como anhídrido maleico, un proceso para hacer el copolímero utilizando polimerización por radicales libres controlada en la cual ciertos parámetros se ajustan para controlar la microestructura y el peso molecular del copolímero, y un método para utilizar el copolímero en bloque, incluyendo su uso como compatibilizante. La microestructura y el peso molecular del copolímero en bloque puede controlarse ajustando la relación de iniciador a monómero y/o ajustando la relación de radical libre estable a iniciador. El copolímero puede hacerse en un proceso de un solo paso y posee una microestructura controlada que permite que un bloque sea reactivo hacia varios grupos químicos disponibles en los polímeros de ingeniería y el otro bloque que sea complamente miscible con poliestireno o miscible con polímeros miscibles con poliestireno tales como éter de polifenileno.

La présente invention concerne un copolymère séquencé de styrène et un anhydride cyclique insaturé, notamment un anhydride maléique, un procédé de fabrication du copolymère utilisant la polymérisation par radicaux libres contrôlée, dans laquelle certains paramètres sont réglés de manière à contrôler la microstructure et le poids moléculaire du copolymère, ainsi qu'un procédé d'utilisation du copolymère séquencé, et son utilisation comme agent de compatibilité. La microstructure et le poids moléculaire du copolymère séquencé peuvent être contrôlés par le réglage du rapport de l'initiateur avec le monomère et/ou le réglage du rapport de radical libre stable avec l'initiateur. Le copolymère peut être obtenu dans un procédé en une seule étape et possède une microstructure contrôlée permettant qu'un bloc soit réactif envers différents groupes chimiques disponibles dans les polymères d'ingénierie et que l'autre bloc soit complètement miscible avec le polystyrène ou miscible avec des polymères miscibles avec un polystyrène, notamment l'éther de polyphénilène.
