(EN)Below ground security systems are disclosed which include at least one first waveguide (10). The waveguide (10) is buried below ground level and the fill above the cable preferably comprises gravel or pebble fill (G) above the waveguide. The waveguide may be in the form of a micro-strain sensor. Various configurations are disclosed which include additional waveguides (12) arranged in a straight line configuration, or waveguides (38, 36) arranged in a loop configuration, or waveguides (36, 38, 47) arranged in an overlapping loop configuration, with the waveguide (47) being above the waveguides (36, 38). An additional motion vibration sensor waveguide (40) may also be included.
