An optical variable attenuator (1) comprises a planar waveguide (2) including an optical waveguide (3) where an input optical path (A) and an output optical path (B). A cantilevered beam (6) is provided on the flat waveguide (2). A movable mirror (8) for reflecting light passing through the input optical path (A) toward the output optical path (B) is fixed to the end of the cantilevered beam (6). An electrode (9) is provided on the planar waveguide (2) and connected to the cantilevered beam (6) through a voltage source (11). The end portion of the cantilevered beam (6) is bent toward the electrode (9) by applying a voltage generated by the voltage source (11) between the cantilevered beam (6) and the electrode (9) and producing an electrostatic force between the cantilevered beam (6) and the electrode (9), thereby providing an optical variable attenuator where the movable mirror (8) is moved toward the electrode (9).

L'invention concerne un atténuateur optique variable (1) pourvu d'un guide d'onde planaire (2) comprenant un guide d'onde optique (2) avec une trajectoire optique d'entrée (A) et une trajectoire optique de sortie (B). Un faisceau (6) en porte-à-faux est situé sur le guide d'onde planaire (2). Un miroir amovible (8) réfléchissant la lumière passant à travers la trajectoire optique d'entrée (A) vers la trajectoire optique de sortie (B) est fixé à l'extrémité du faisceau (6) en porte-à-faux. Une électrode (9) est située sur le guide d'onde planaire (2) et connectée au faisceau (6) en porte-à-faux par une source (11) de tension. La partie d'extrémité du faisceau (6) en porte-à-faux est inclinée vers l'électrode (9) par application d'une tension générée par la source (11) de tension entre le faisceau (6) en porte-à-faux et l'électrode (9), et par génération d'une force électrostatique entre le faisceau (6) en porte-à-faux et l'électrode (9), permettant ainsi d'obtenir un atténuateur optique variable dans lequel le miroir amovible (8) est déplacé vers l'électrode (9).

光可変減衰器1は平面導波路2を有し、この平面導波路2には、入力用光路A及び出力用光路Bを形成する光導波路3が設けられている。平面導波路2の上面には片持ち梁6が設けられ、この片持ち梁6の先端部には、入力用光路A上を通る光を出力用光路Bに向けて反射させる可動ミラー8が固定され、また、平面導波路2の上面には電極9が設けられ、片持ち梁6と電極9とは電圧源11を介して接続されており、この電圧源11により片持ち梁6と電極9との間に電圧を印可することで、両者間に静電気力を発生させて片持ち梁6の先端側部分を電極9側に撓ませ、これにより、可動ミラー8が電極9側に移動する光可変減衰器を提供する。
