(EN)A space variant polarization optical element for spatially manipulating polarization-dependent geometrical phases of an incident light beam. The element comprises a substrate with a plurality of zones of gratings with a continuously varying orientation. The orientation denoted by &thetas;(x-y) is equal to half of a desired geometrical phase (DGP) modulus 2&pgr;. Each grating has a local period that is smaller than the wavelength of the incident light beam. In other embodiments of the present invention the substrate comprises a plurality of zones of gratings with a continuously varying orientation.
(FR)L'invention concerne un élément optique de polarisation à variation spatiale conçu pour manipuler de manière spatiale des phases géométriques dépendant de la polarisation d'un faisceau lumineux incident. Ledit élément comprend un substrat comportant plusieurs zones de réseaux de diffraction à orientation variant continuellement. L'orientation représentée par $g(u)(x,y) est égale à la moitié d'un module de phase géométrique voulu (DGP) 2$g(P). Chaque réseau de diffraction a une période locale plus petite que la longueur d'onde du faisceau lumineux incident.
