Abstract
(EN) An advanced external beam steering controller (AEBSC) for use with a phased array antenna which requires only spherical coordinate pointing information to be supplied from a remote controller. The AEBSC uses the spherical coordinate pointing information, as well as stored information for the X, Y and Z axes locations of each specific antenna element of the phased array antenna, to generate actual phase shift values needed to be applied to each antenna element in order to point the antenna in accordance with a predetermined pointing angle. The invention significantly reduces the amount of electrical cabling required for communicating with the external controller, and also reduces the required data rate at which information must be supplied from the remote controller to the AEBSC
(FR) L'invention concerne un contrôleur d'orientation de faisceau externe perfectionné (AEBSC) conçu pour être utilisé avec une antenne en réseau à commande de phase qui a uniquement besoin d'une information de pointage de coordonnées sphériques destinée à un contrôleur à distance. Ledit contrôleur utilise l'information de pointage de coordonnées sphériques, ainsi qu'une information stockée destinée aux emplacements des axes X, Y et Z de chaque élément d'antenne spécifique de l'antenne en réseau à commande de phase, de manière à engendrer des valeurs de déplacement de phases actuelles qui doivent être appliquées à chaque élément d'antenne en vue de pointer l'antenne en fonction d'un angle de pointage prédéterminé. Le procédé de cette invention permet de réduire considérablement la quantité de câblage électrique nécessaire à la communication avec le contrôleur externe, et de diminuer également le débit binaire nécessaire, auquel l'information doit être acheminée à partir du contrôleur à distance jusqu'au contrôleur d'orientation de faisceau externe perfectionné (AEBSC).
