(EN)A multilayer fluorescent optical storage medium (203) has data layers (210) with fluorescent pits (211, 321) for storing the information. The pits (211, 321) on each of the layers (211) are organized to define a plurality of stills (316). Each stack of stills (316) can be read without lateral movement of the reading head. An eight-to-ten code for encoding information to be stored is also used.
