(EN)In or for a biomechanical joint, a bracing system comprises: a) a power driven linear-action actuating means incorporating a member which, when said means is actuated, advances or retracts in order to optimise the degree of angular motion permitted to said joint; and b) processing means for controlling the operation of the power driven actuating means for a variety of joint motions and/or loading conditions. Advantageously the linear-action actuating means is a screw.
