Abstract
(EN) The present invention provides a system and method for distributing inflation gases within an airbag cushion (10). Such a cushion (10) may have one or more protection zones (40, 42) configured to inflate to protect vehicle occupants. An inflation channel (90) may be enclosed by one or more of the protection zones (40, 42), and may be attached to a mounting surface (116) within a protection zone (40, 42). The inflation channel (90) may be connected to an inflator (24), and may have a plurality of holes (92) along its length, sized or spaced apart in a manner selected to provide a comparatively even flow rate of inflation gas to all parts of the cushion during inflation. Additionally, the inflation channel (90) may have a gas outlet extension along which the holes are disposed; the gas outlet extension may have a tapered shape configured to collapse under external pressure to prevent backflow of inflation gases into the inflation channel (90).
(FR) Cette invention concerne un système et un procédé de distribution de gaz de gonflage à l'intérieur d'un coussin de sécurité gonflable. Ce type de coussin peut comporter une ou plusieurs zones de protection conçues pour se gonfler pour protéger les occupants du véhicule. Un canal de gonflage peut être entouré d'une ou plusieurs zones de protection et peut être fixé à une surface de montage à l'intérieur d'une zone de protection. Ce canal de protection peut être raccordé à un élément de gonflage et peut comporter une pluralité d'orifices disposés sur sa longueur, lesquels orifices peuvent avoir une certaine taille et être espacés les uns des autres de sorte qu'un débit comparativement égal de gaz de gonflage soit envoyé à toutes les parties du coussin lors du gonflage. En outre, le canal de gonflage peut comporter un prolongement de sortie de gaz le long duquel sont disposés les orifices.
