(EN) This invention relates to a novel process to obtain hoghly pure 4-(cyclopropylcarbonyl)-$g(a),$g(a)-dimethylphenylacetic acid of Formula I through crystallization from a mixture of para and meta regioisomers of Formula I and II in cyclohexane, whereby the amount of undesired meta isomer, 3-(cyclopropylcarbonyl)-$g(a),$g)a)-dimethylphenylacetic acid of Formula II is decreased to below 0.5%. The compound of Formula I is a key intermediate for the preparation of high purity terfenadine carboxylate, which is a known antihistaminic.
(FR) L'invention concerne un nouveau procédé pour obtenir un acide 4-(cyclopropylcarbonyl)-$g(a),$g(a)-dimethylphénylacétique haute pureté correspondant à la Formule I par la cristallisation d'un mélange de régioisomères para et méta correspondant aux Formules I et II dans cyclohexane. La quantité de l'isomère méta indésirable de l'acide 3-(cyclopropylcarbonyl)-$g(a),$g)a)- dimethylphénylacétique correspondant à la Formule II est moins de 0,5 %. Le composé correspondant à la Formule I est un intermédiaire clé dans la préparation de carboxylate de terénadine haute pureté dont on connaît les propriétés antihistaminiques.
