Abstract

A novel and useful apparatus for and method of echo based collision detection and resolution used in controlling access to a shared media. The mechanism utilizes echoes generated by non-competing nodes to enable operation in the presence of hidden nodes. Mechanisms are provided for use by source and destination nodes to compete for the media. In addition, two mechanisms for handling the blocked node problem are provided. The first is a mechanism for initiating a link by a potential destination node, rather than the source node. The second is a mechanism whereby a node transmits a release indication signal to the media upon detecting that the media is available after being busy for a relatively long period of time. The invention also includes a mechanism for multi-priority level occupation of the media whereby a node may capture the media at different priority levels.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé nouveaux et utiles de détection et de résolution de collision basées sur des échos, utilisés dans un contrôle d'accès à un support partagé. Ce mécanisme utilise des échos créés par des noeuds non concurrents, afin de permettre le fonctionnement en présence de noeuds cachés. L'invention concerne également des mécanismes pouvant être utilisés par des noeuds de source et de destination pour se disputer le support. De plus, deux mécanismes destinés à traiter le problème des noeuds bloqués sont décrits. Le premier est un mécanisme permettant d'initialiser une liaison par un noeud de destination potentielle, plutôt que par le noeud source. Le second est un mécanisme par lequel un noeud transmet un signal d'indication de libération au support, lorsqu'il est établi que le support est disponible après avoir été occupé pendant une période relativement longue. L'invention concerne encore un mécanisme d'occupation à niveaux de priorité multiples du support, par lequel un noeud peut capturer le support à des niveaux de priorité différents.
