(EN)The present invention relates to a communication system supporting communication of packet data. It comprises a core network, which comprises a number of packet data support nodes and a number of gateway nodes for communication with external packet data networks, and a number of radio networks. Each radio network comprises radio network control means. Each of at least some of the packet data support nodes comprises a separate functional server node. A number of said functional server nodes are provided to, in common, control at least a number of radio network control means such that said functional server nodes form a pool of functional server nodes, in which each functional server node is able to control any radio network control means.
(FR)L'invention concerne un système de communication supportant la communication de paquets de données. Il comporte un réseau central, qui comprend plusieurs noeuds de support de paquets de données et plusieurs noeuds de transit pour la communication avec des réseaux de paquets de données externes, ainsi que plusieurs réseaux radio. Chaque réseau radio comporte un dispositif de commande de réseau radio. Au moins chacun des noeuds de soutien de paquets de données comporte un noeud serveur fonctionnel séparé. Nombre de ces noeuds serveurs fonctionnels sont conçus pour commander, en commun, au moins plusieurs dispositifs de commande de réseau radio; ainsi, lesdits noeuds serveurs fonctionnels forment un ensemble de noeuds serveurs fonctionnels, qui peuvent, chacun, commander n'importe lequel des dispositifs de commande de réseau radio.
