(EN)The present invention relates to a method of inactivating viral particles in a blood product, more in particular red blood cells and platelets, comprising the steps of combining said blood product with a photosensitiser, and activating the photosensitiser. In accordance with the present invention, a positively-charged sensitizer is used having a defined structure. Surprisingly, the damage to the blood product is strongly reduced.
(FR)L'invention concerne un procédé d'inactivation de particules virales dans un produit sanguin, plus particulièrement dans des globules rouges et des plaquettes. Ce procédé comporte les étapes consistant à : combiner le produit sanguin avec un photosensibilisant, et activer le photosensibilisant. On utilise un agent sensibilisant chargé positivement qui présente une structure définie. Curieusement, ce procédé permet de réduire fortement les dégradations du produit sanguin.
