(EN)Providing a compact, side pumped fiber amplifier that is easily manufactured and does not require finely dimensioned focusing. Further providing a technique for side-pumping a fiber (102) by providing a relief grating (108) on a substantially planar lateral portion of a length of the fiber (102). Such a grating (108) shall be configured such that the zeroeth order (206) of the incident light is substantially suppressed, and the incident light (104) is coupled via the +1 and -1 orders (110) into substantial confinement via total internal reflection. The grating itself is both inexpensive and relatively simple to create.
(FR)L'invention concerne un amplificateur de fibres compactes pompées latéralement pouvant être fabriqué facilement et ne nécessitant pas de mise au point de fines dimensions.
