(EN)A vehicle occupant proximity sensor (10) includes a transmitting electrode (20) in a vehicle seat (14) and an array of receiving electrodes (22) mounted in a vehicle headliner above the vehicle seat. The sensor determines the capacitance at each of the receiving electrodes, which varies based upon the proximity of the occupant (12) to each receiving electrode (22a-n), thus producing an array of proximity information indicating in two dimensions the position of the occupant.
(FR)L'invention concerne un détecteur de proximité (10) d'un occupant de véhicule. Ce détecteur comprend une électrode émettrice (20) installée dans un siège (14) du véhicule et un ensemble d'électrodes réceptrices (22) montées dans une garniture de toit au-dessus dudit siège. Ce détecteur détermine la capacitance de chacune des électrodes réceptrices, laquelle capacitance varie en fonction de la proximité de l'occupant (12) par rapport à chaque électrode réceptrice (22a-n). On obtient ainsi un ensemble d'informations de proximité indiquant en deux dimensions la position de l'occupant du véhicule.
