An electrochemical battery comprising a housing; an electrolyte within the housing; an anode within the electrolyte and the housing and having an anode surface upper portion and an anode surface lower portion; a cathode within the electrolyte and the housing and having a cathode surface upper portion and a cathode surface lower portion at an inter-electrode distance from the anode to operably provide upward laminar flow of the electrolyte from the anode and cathode lower portions to the anode and cathode upper portions; recycle downcomer channel means for effecting and allowing of downward gravity flow of an upper portion of the electrolyte from the anode and cathode surface upper portions to provide a recycled lower portion of the electrolyte for recycle to the anode and cathode. The battery structure provides improved cell power performance, reduces unwanted temperature gradients in the cell, provides uniformity of electrolyte concentration and reduces cell passivation.

La présente invention concerne une batterie électrochimique comprenant: un boîtier; un électrolyte contenu dans le boîtier; une anode disposée à l'intérieur de l'électrolyte et du boîtier et ayant une partie supérieure de surface anodique et une partie inférieure de surface anodique; une cathode disposée à l'intérieur de l'électrolyte et du boîtier, ayant une partie supérieure de surface cathodique et une partie inférieure de surface cathodique, et étant située à une distance inter-électrode de l'anode afin de produire d'un point de vue fonctionnel un flux laminaire ascendant de l'électrolyte depuis les parties inférieures anodique et cathodique en direction des parties supérieures anodique et cathodique; un système de canal de trop plein de recyclage servant à produire et à faire circuler un flux descendant par gravité de la partie supérieure de l'électrolyte depuis les parties supérieures anodique et cathodique, afin d'amener une partie inférieure recyclée de l'électrolyte pour recyclage au niveau de l'anode et de la cathode. La structure de batterie permet d'obtenir des puissances élevées de la batterie, de réduire les gradients de température indésirables, d'obtenir une uniformité de la concentration électrolytique, et de réduire la passivation de la batterie.
