The present invention provides an improved magnetometer (10) to efficiently evaluate subsurface characteristics of conductive material without destroying the material. A white noise generator drives an induction coil (14) to induce measurable currents in a work piece at multiple frequencies. Multiple super conducting quantum interference devices 'SQUIDs' (16) measure the magnetic filed created by the currents. The SQUIDs are housed in a liquid nitrogen Dewar (12). The SQUIDs are aligned along a Josephson junction and are manufactured on a single substrate (34). A mover moves the work piece (18) adjacent the super conducting quantum interference devices. A computer (26) analyzes the measured data.

L'invention concerne une amélioration apportée à un magnétomètre (10) servant à évaluer des caractéristiques d'un matériau conducteur, sous sa surface, sans destruction dudit matériau. Un générateur de bruit blanc excite une bobine d'induction (14) pour induire des courants mesurables dans une pièce, à des fréquences multiples. Une pluralité d'interféromètres quantiques supraconducteurs 'SQUID' (16) mesure le champ magnétique créé par les courants. Ces SQUID, logés dans un dewar (12) contenant de l'azote liquide, sont alignés le long d'une jonction de Josephson et sont produits sur un seul substrat (34). Un dispositif sert à déplacer la pièce (18) de sorte qu'elle soit adjacente aux SQUID. Un ordinateur (26) analyse ensuite les données mesurées.
