The present invention relates to an arrangement and a method for the estimation of a point of time of the start of a combustion process of an internal combustion engine (1). The arrangement comprises a first sensor (7), which senses at least a parameter related to the sound generated during the combustion process, signal treatment means (8-11), which transforms said signal to measurement values a, and a control unit (13), which is arranged to compare measurement values a with a reference value (aref). The point of time of the start of an actual combustion process is estimated to the point of time (t1) of a first measurement value (a1) which reaches the reference value (aref) after that at least a previous measurement value a has been below the reference value (a¿ref). Advantageously, the control unit (13) is also arranged to control the combustion processes of the internal combustion engine (1) with knowledge about the estimated point of time (t1) and to adjust the point of time of the injection (t0) of the injection member (5) of a fuel or a fuel mixture at need.

Cette invention se rapporte à un système et à un procédé servant à estimer le moment où débute le processus de combustion d'un moteur à combustion interne (1). Ce système comprend un premier capteur (7), qui détecte au moins un paramètre relatif au bruit produit pendant le processus de combustion, un moyen de traitement de signal (8-11), qui transforme ce signal en des valeurs de mesure (a), et une unité de commande (13) qui est conçue pour comparer ces valeurs de mesure (a) avec une valeur de référence (aref). Le moment où débute un processus de combustion effectif est estimé correspondre au moment (t1) d'une première valeur de mesure (a1) qui atteint la valeur de référence (aref) après qu'au moins une valeur de mesure précédente se soit située sous la valeur de référence (aref). Avantageusement, l'unité de commande (13) est également conçue pour commander les processus de combustion du moteur à combustion interne (1), en connaissant le moment estimé (t1), et pour régler le moment de l'injection (t0) par l'élément d'injection (5) d'un carburant ou d'un mélange de carburant, selon les besoins.
