A visual inspection apparatus for inspecting the surface of an object (W) which is not uniformly flat as a whole comprises a CCD television camera (45) for picking up the image of a specified extent including the surface to be inspected, and processors (46, 47) for inspecting the surface based on the brightness information at a plurality of dots equally divided in the image pickup extent. The processors (46, 47) preset a plurality of inspection lines on the image of the surface connecting the points where the difference in brightness, is a little determines the brightness information sequentially at the plurality of dots along the inspection lines, divides the brightness information into a plurality of sets for dot groups including a predetermined number of continuous dots, and inspects the surface along the inspection line based on the brightness information at the dots in each dot group.

L'invention porte sur un appareil permettant de contrôler la surface d'un objet (W) qui n'est pas uniformément plate. Cet appareil comprend une caméra (45) de télévision CCD qui capte l'image sur un espace déterminé comprenant la surface à contrôler, et des processeurs (46, 47) qui contrôlent la surface en fonction des informations de brillance se trouvant au niveau d'une pluralité de points divisés de manière égale dans l'espace capté. Les processeurs (46, 47), sur l'image de la surface, établissent au préalable une pluralité de lignes de contrôle reliant les points présentant une faible différence de brillance, déterminent les informations de brillance séquentiellement au niveau de la pluralité de points le long des lignes de contrôle, répartissent les informations de brillance en une pluralité d'ensembles de groupes de points comprenant un nombre prédéterminé de points continus et contrôlent la surface le long de la ligne de contrôle en fonction des informations de brillance se trouvant au niveau des points de chaque groupe.
